PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

The programme “Logic” accepts graduates from many departments and faculties who are interested in entering the broad, interdisciplinary research field of logic either for scientific or professional reasons. In particular, the programme “Logic”, on the one hand, prepares those intending to carry out doctoral research in logic or related branches of mathematics or philosophy and, on the other, initiates anyone interested into an understanding of the assessment of arguments. Arguments are encountered in education and research, but also in various forms of private and public life (courts, boards of directors, health-science ethics, negotiations, etc.). Knowledge of logic sharpens one’s ability to evaluate reasoning and is useful in any area that requires skills for analytic and synthetic thought.

Successful applicants will join a thriving graduate community, including on average 140 students per year attending the MA programmes offered by the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, as well as around 90 active PhD candidates. Many of those students later pursue a career in funded research projects in Greek or international institutions.

Information for international students about practical matters, advice for living in Athens and much more, is available at the International Students Support Unit: https://issu.uoa.gr/. If you have a specific query, you may contact the ISSU officers by email or telephone.

For any queries about the programme you may send an email to logic@phs.uoa.gr.
